What Is a Screw-Down Crown & Why Does It Matter?

Keeping Your Watch Safe in the Water

Whether you’re surfing, swimming, or just cooling off, you want to be sure your watch is built to handle the water.

At Anova Chicago, all of our watches are designed with adventure in mind. A key component that makes this possible is the screw-down crown—a feature that adds extra security against water, dust, and damage.

What Is a Screw-Down Crown?

A screw-down crown is a special type of watch crown that locks into place by screwing down tightly against the case. This design creates a watertight seal, preventing moisture and debris from entering the movement. It’s an essential feature for anyone who spends time around water.

Why It Matters:

Superior Water Resistance – Keeps your watch protected during swimming, diving, and daily wear.
Increased Durability – Less risk of the crown getting knocked loose.
Protection from Dirt & Debris – Keeps the inside of your watch clean and functioning properly.
Extended Watch Life – Prevents water damage that could shorten the lifespan of your timepiece.

How to Use a Screw-Down Crown Properly

Unscrewing the Crown:

  1. Locate the Crown – The crown is the small knob on the side of your watch (usually at the 3 o’clock position).
  2. Turn Counterclockwise – Gently twist the crown left until it loosens and pops out.
  3. Adjust Your Watch – Once unscrewed, pull the crown out to set the time, date, or other functions.

Screwing It Back Down:

  1. Push the Crown In – Once adjustments are made, press the crown back into its starting position.
  2. Turn Clockwise – While pressing down, twist the crown to the right until it’s snug against the case.
  3. Check the Seal – Make sure it’s fully secured to maintain water resistance. Be careful not to overtighten!

Maintenance Tips for Long-Lasting Protection

🔹 Always Check Before Water Exposure – Ensure the crown is tightly screwed down before swimming.
🔹 Handle with Care – Avoid forcing the crown, as this can damage the threads or gasket.
🔹 Service Regularly – Have a professional check the seals every few years to maintain water resistance.

What If Water Gets Inside?

If you ever notice condensation or fogging inside your watch, act fast! This means moisture has entered the case, and the watch needs immediate servicing. The longer you wait, the higher the risk of movement damage.

At Anova Chicago, we design our watches to handle the elements, but proper care is key to keeping them in top shape. With a screw-down crown, you can confidently take your watch on any journey—whether it’s in the city or deep in the water.

Stay ready. Stay protected. Anova Chicago – Built for the Journey. Designed for Life.
